Recent weather events have wreaked havoc in the Upper North Island, causing significant damage and disruptions to people’s lives, and businesses ability to operate as usual.

Inland Revenue support

Thankfully, Inland Revenue have come to the aid of those most affected with additional support measures being made available. To assist affected farmers and growers Inland Revenue are exercising discretion to allow late deposits for the 2022 year and early withdrawals from the income equalisation scheme. If you need any assistance from Inland Revenue in regards to extensions on filing of GST returns or delaying provisional tax payments, you can send secure mail using the keyword ‘flood’ in the subject line, or contact them on their disaster line 0800 473 566. Further information on IRD’s assistance measures can be found in their Tax Relief for Extreme Events document.

Bank support

Banks also have various support measures available for their customers. ASB and Westpac are offering cash grants to businesses most impacted, to help them get back up and running. Kiwibank, ANZ and Co-operative Bank are also offering support through loan term extensions, switching loans to interest only, reducing credit card payments and early access to term deposit funds.
