Nexia New Zealand are proud sponsors of the Export NZ Breakfast Series run by the Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce.
The November breakfast was very insightful, with Mark Macleod-Smith from Halter and Steve Saunders from Robotics Plus, talking about how they are using innovative technology to address some key global challenges facing the agricultural sector.
Steve discussed some of these challenges in detail, and provided examples of just how real the problems are.
- 1/3 of ALL food and 1/2 of ALL fresh produce is wasted every year
- Labour shortages will become the major challenge for agricultural operations around the globe
- 10 billion mouths to feed by 2050
To address this, Robotics plus has partnered with Yamaha and are developing some incredibly smart robotic technology to address these key challenges around sustainability and labour shortages. The Robotic picker (see picture), was just one of the examples that Steve provided, showing just how Robotics Plus are going to address those global challenges.
Thank you to both Steve and Mark for providing an interesting snapshot of what they are doing in the technology space.
