Professional experience

Jono is a Partner and Tax Division Lead at Nexia Christchurch, working across the firm’s Tax and Business Advisory service lines. He is a Chartered Accountant (CAANZ) and an enrolled barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, having studied Law and Accounting at Canterbury University.

He began his career in Wellington as a tax consultant with a ‘Big 4’ firm, specialising in transaction advisory and compliance services for high net worth individuals and large enterprises, both in New Zealand and offshore, and completed several long-term secondments into the finance and commercial teams of the firm’s large listed clients.

Jono later spent several years with Synlait Milk, gaining experience in strategy and innovation by leading R&D and capital programs from concept to launch, later becoming leader of the New Product Projects Group and then a Global Account Manager. This commercial experience equips him to help clients navigate the compliance aspects of R&D and capital projects, including financing, regulatory requirements, and R&D tax credit claims.

Outside of work and voluntary roles, Jono enjoys spending time with his young family, and embracing the great outdoors through skiing, cycling, camping, swimming and golf.
