Nexia NZ Clean up Te Oranga Waikura, Woolston

March 10, 2020

Last month the Nexia New Zealand team celebrated our annual ‘Fun Day’, an opportunity to down tools and spend time out of the office. This year we decided to spend some of the day giving back to the Christchurch community, working to weed and spread mulch at Te Oranga Waikura.

We reached out to the Christchurch City Council who introduced us to this area in Woolston.
Te Oranga Waikura has been developed as a stormwater flood retention area. Three years ago, it was a low-lying damp grassy field, and is now a series of ponds with native plantings and a walking track. It is also a special space in the community for urban biodiversity and nature play for the schools that border it. The area needed extensive weed protection to protect the planting that had been completed, and there was concern the resourcing would never get there.

We sent the whole Nexia NZ team to get stuck in and they made an incredible impact in a short amount of time. If you or your organisation would like to leave a good footprint on our community, head on over to CCC’s volunteering page for more information.
